Kristiaan Bernauw (°1958), counsel, advises and represents domestic and international clients in litigations concerning questions of insurance law, transport law and commercial law. He is professor of law at the Ghent University and University of Antwerp, teaching transport law, insurance law and transport insurance law. He publishes in the field of insurance law and transport law.
Kristiaan Bernauw is a lawyer, admitted to the Ghent Bar Association in 1981. He had his own practice in maritime and transport law and insurance law (1981 till 2005) and was a partner at Bernauw & Allary Advocaten (2005-2010). He obtained a licentiate in law degree (1981) and a licentiate in criminology (1981) both at the Ghent University. He also obtained a licentiate in notaryship before the Central State Examination Board (1982), a Master of Laws (LLM in Air and Space Law) in 1986 at McGill University, Montreal Canada. In 1996 he was promoted at the Ghent University to Doctor of Laws (PhD) on the thesis "Delay in transport: Liability and Insurance".
